Renewable energy and conservation: conflict or synergy?
The research schools Ecology & Society (ECOS), Ecology – basics and application & Sustainable Biomass Systems will jointly organise an online symposium on the interface between renewable energy and conservation on the afternoons (13-17h) of 14 and 15 April 2021.

We need to move towards more sustainable energy sources to combat the global climate crisis. However, some renewable energy solutions might be in conflict with that other large global crisis: the biodiversity crisis. What are the potential conflicts between renewable energy and biodiversity conservation? And can we find solutions to tackle these conflicts?

The aim of this symposium is to bring doctoral students and researchers from different disciplines together to be informed and discuss issues related to the energy transition, and the global climate and biodiversity crises.

Keynote speakers will be Prof Ståle Navrud (Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), Norway) and dr Alona Armstrong (Lancaster University, UK). Confirmed SLU speakers are Prof Thomas Ranius, Prof Tommy Lundgren, dr Niclas Ericsson, Prof Bengt Kriström, and dr Anna Skarin.
